“We are working closely with other local authorities and partners to ensure a joined-up approach, whilst sharing factual information in line with national guidance.”

He added: “We have launched a dedicated coronavirus web page on the Council’s website - www.harborough.gov.uk/coronavirus - which we are updating as appropriate, and are reviewing our business continuity arrangements to ensure continuation of service.

“We also are looking to link up with the voluntary sector to do all we can to support the community at this challenging time.”

Meanwhile, Harborough MP Neil O’Brien urged people to do what they can to try to halt the virulent virus in its tracks.

Mr O’Brien said: “I appreciate this is a worrying time for many.

“But there are a number of steps we must all take to reduce our risk of contracting the virus and unwittingly spreading it to others.

“Some of the steps are easier than others, such as repeatedly washing our hands, but really make such a difference towards reducing the risks of spreading.”

He added: “Other steps, such as self-isolating, are understandably harder but are absolutely necessary for people showing symptoms and in at-risk groups.

“This includes anyone over 70, pregnant or those with underlying health conditions.

“Please ensure you follow the guidance if you belong to one of these groups.

“If you are in need of support, please do reach out to charities such as VASL who can be reached on 01858 433232 or https://vasl.org.uk“They’re always looking for new volunteers also, so please get in touch if you’re able to help.

“Many local community groups and churches have also formed support groups.

“So again please do get in touch with them if either you are in need of support, or looking to offer assistance to others.
