'This will be a great improvement' - headteacher delighted with new classroom at village school near Harborough

The head of a village school in the Harborough district is hailing a new classroom set to be built after being bankrolled by a £227,000 cash boost.

Headteacher Stephen Roddy said both pupils and staff at Church Langton CE Primary School are “delighted” to have been handed the funding by the Department for Education.

The new classroom for older children will be built at the school, which has about 200 youngsters aged from 4-11, in 2021.

“We are always striving to improve the facilities and resources available to our pupils,” said Stephen.

“In recent years this has included our all-weather astro-turf pitch and storytelling area and so this new classroom will be a great improvement for our oldest pupils.”

The new facility will replace a mobile classroom.

It will be home to the oldest pupils in Year Six and is due to open at the start of the new academic year in August.

The school, which welcomes families from the Langtons, Market Harborough, Kibworth and surrounding villages, has one class per year.

So the bang-up-to-date new classroom will be enjoyed by all pupils as they move upwards through the school.

Church Langton school is part of the Learn Academies Trust, which comprises 11 schools across Harborough, Narborough and Blaby.

The £227,000 needed to finance the project has been received from the Government’s Condition Improvement Fund.

It’s part of £1.1 million being awarded to schools in the Trust to overhaul and upgrade their buildings and infrastructure.

“During the past term the school has been welcoming prospective new parents through virtual open days and personal tours is welcoming parents on January 4 for a chance to visit the school,” said the school.
