There has been an iconic market, both outdoors and indoors, in Market Harborough stretching back over 800 years to 1204, deep in the Middle Ages.

And the current indoor market smack bang in the heart of the town centre has never been more crucial than it is now as it helps the community deal with the devastating coronavirus pandemic.

Stall-holders, customers and staff all talk about how critical the bustling market is to them as well as to the entire Harborough area during the uplifting, feelgood three-minute video.

The Northampton Road market has stayed open since the lockdown was imposed at the end of March as many resourceful, inventive traders have also began offering home deliveries to boost shoppers.

“The positive feedback we have had from the start has been totally overwhelming.

“We have hopefully provided a safe retail environment and have welcomed more and more customers back each week,” said a market spokeswoman.

“This video perfectly captures the spirit of the market – and the real genuine warmth and affection in which the market is held.

“On behalf of all of our traders we thank our customers for their support and ask that they continue to support us to help get us through the months ahead.”

The polished, heartwarming video has been produced by Market Harborough-based Firetree Visual on behalf of the market, which is operated by Harborough District Council.
