A major housebuilder is set to go back to work on two new estates in Harborough on Monday May 11.

David Wilson Homes is launching a “controlled and phased restart” next week at its 150-property Fleckney Fields development in Fleckney.

The big regional construction company will also be getting back to work on its landmark scheme in nearby Fleckney Road, Kibworth.

Along with many other housebuilders, David Wilson Homes shut down all of its operations across the East Midlands when the Covid-19 lockdown was imposed on March 23.

Now David Thomas, chief executive officer for parent company Barratt Developments, has told the Harborough Mail: “As the UK’s leading housebuilder, we are ready to play our part in getting the country building again.

“Since we closed our sites, we’ve been carefully working through the steps needed to reopen sites while protecting employees so that we can get back to creating the high-quality new homes the country needs as safely as possible.”

Mr Thomas stressed that they will continue to put the well being of their workforce and the public first.

“Our first priority remains the health and safety of our employees, contractors and customers.

“With new and enhanced policies, working practices and protocols in place we’ll begin a controlled and phased restart from Monday 11 May,” he said.

“We want to thank our employees, contractors and our customers for their patience and support throughout this challenging time.”
