The donation was presented to the Jubilee Foodbank by Redrow Homes South Midlands. The developer is building homes at Bowden Chase, Great Bowden. The contribution was part of Redrow’s community fund initiative.

The £10,000 fund was created to support schemes led by local groups, organisations and individuals.

The Jubilee Foodbank donates food parcels to needy people in and around Harborough.

Volunteers work hard to collect supplies from points at supermarkets and churches before handing them out.

Liz Mills, volunteer at the Jubilee Foodbank, said: “We are grateful for the support from Redrow.

“The funds will go towards much-needed health and safety training which will help our network of volunteers safely lift and move supplies – particularly over the busy Christmas period.”

She added: “We support anyone who needs us, from those on low wages or benefits, through to people who have been made redundant or have difficult circumstances.

“If you can imagine the amount of food needed by a large family for three days you can imagine the weight of the bags being carried.

“Volunteers also collect food given in at collection points around the town, such as supermarkets and local churches.”

Tonia Tyler, sales director for Redrow Homes South Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to support the Jubilee Foodbank with their work, as they help so many people in the local community.

“Their support spans the whole town, with help available for anyone who needs it – young or old, families or individuals.”
