The Eco Village is already going great guns after launching on Harborough’s busy St Mary’s Road on Thursday February 6.

Beth Lambert, 39, and her great friend and business partner Beth Awdry are the people behind the new sustainable venture at the old Plumb Center.

Ecstatic Beth Lambert said: “We’ve got off to a fantastic start.

“We have already had hundreds of shoppers pour in through the doors.

“The response has been magnificent.

“One woman even told me that we had made her so happy by opening the Eco Village!”

The hard-working mum-of-two said they are opening from 9am-4pm Tuesday to Saturday.

“We’ve had customers visit us from as far away as Lincoln as well as from all over Leicestershire, Leicester and Northamptonshire.

People have remarked that even London would be proud of such a green, environmentally-friendly shopping and trading hub,” said Beth, of Northleigh Grove, Harborough.

“At the moment we have 14 independent local businesses trading with us.

“They include bakers and juicers as well as fresh produce.

“We have also had huge interest in cloth nappies – which are really coming back into fashion.

“They are storming back and business is booming.

“We’ve got an amazing location on St Mary’s Road on the edge of the town centre.

“The atmosphere is brilliant because the traders are all so lovely.

“People are excited to have us here up and running – the whole place is buzzing.”

The Refill Revolution pioneer said they also aim to turn the Eco Village into an “educational powerhouse”.

“We’ve got an eco-speaker coming here to talk to people from 10am on Thursday February 13.

“There’s no need to book – just roll up and come on in.

“We hope to bring in a different speaker every week to help educate all of us.

“We have also set up a lot of special composters sponsored by Specsavers.

“So we’ll rot as much of our waste as possible and break it down rather than just throwing it away.

“We are here to bring local people together and give them an entirely new shopping and educational experience.

“But we are also setting out to tackle climate change and help save our planet before it’s too late.”
