Dozens of businesses in Harborough receive surprise visits to see if they are following Covid rules

At least 75 businesses throughout Harborough got a surprise visit from council officials checking they were supporting Covid-19 rules.
The visits were carried out over the last few days at supermarkets, convenience stores, garden centres, newsagents and chemists, said Harborough council.

Hide AdThe authority said they found high levels of compliance across all areas and no formal action needed to be taken.
But they did offer extra advice and support on coronavirus guidance to some businesses.
The council’s campaign, part of its huge co-ordinated effort to stop the virus spreading, will continue for the foreseeable future.
A council spokesman said: “Officers were checking that Covid-secure measures were in place.

Hide Ad“It was encouraging to find that levels of compliance were high across all areas, and no formal action has been taken.”
He added: “Customers are asked to play their part and follow the rules put in place by businesses to protect staff and customers, such as wearing a face covering unless exempt and maintaining social distancing.
“Officers are continuing to carry out spot checks in the coming weeks.”
