Villagers get ready to cheer and boo at the pantomime

A group of amateur dramatists will be examining several well loved fairy tales when they perform an unusual pantomime.

Swinford Operatic and Drama Society (SODS) will be presenting the traditional show for the whole family by performing the show Once Upon a Time.

It is a mix of fairy tales combined with intriguing plot and characters, charming princes, pretty princesses, outlandish dame, evil Evelyn and silly stooges.

A spokesman for the group said: “The committee pored over numerous scripts discarding many before selecting the most obvious choice which is entitled strange as it may seem Once Upon a Time.”

It has also been a team effort to get the shows ready for the stage

The spokesman continuted: “As usual SODS members are extremely grateful for all the hard work put in by the director Debbie Adlerstein and cast and all the offstage support team.

“Once again we have a number first timers treading the boards as well as the old hands.

“We always enjoy putting on these pantos and hope that the resulting shows will be a lot of fun for all who attend.”

Among the cast include Richard Wheatley, Nicky Taylor, Grace Adlerstein, Mary Hall, ClareSheath, Simon Ragsdale, Anne Moule, Simon Deacon, Catherine Brookes, Harriet Moule, Lily Finch, Amy Griffiths and Rupert Sneath.

There are six shows being put on in Swinford Village Hall over two weekends.

The first performance starts on Friday November 27 at 7.30pm with futher shows starting at 3pm and 7.30pm on the following day.

For anyone not around that weekend the group will be performing the following weekend at the same times on Friday December 4 and Saturday December 5.

Tickets are now on sale and organisers are recommending people book in advance.

They cost £20 for two adults and two children and £7 for adults and £4 for children.
