Harborough Theatre is hoping to reopen in the autumn – as long as there are not any more Covid setbacks.

The playhouse in the heart of Market Harborough is aiming to open its doors in September if the Government’s much-vaunted ‘road map’ stays on track.

“However, this is subject to restrictions on theatres being lifted.

“Especially the social distancing rules which in the case of Harborough Theatre would reduce our usual capacity of 120 to around 30,” said John Foreman, who heads up the well-established theatre as chairman of Market Harborough Drama Society.

“Should this remain in force then it’s back to the drawing board with a difficult decision to make.

“If the ‘road map’ does remove these restrictions then we will start selling season tickets in July for the 2021-22 season with tickets for Skylight (our opening play of the season) going on sale in August. “We’re geared up to go.

“But decisions made by the Government on June 21 will dictate what we can and cannot do.

“The theatre has undergone considerable alterations to make the venue as safe as it could possibly be and patrons can be reassured that they will be in a safe environment,” stressed John, whose theatre has been staging plays and entertaining people since 1947.
