The youngest swimmer to take part last year was just five – and the oldest was over 80.

Rotarian Carole Baldam, chair of the organising group, said: “We are all really looking forward to it.

“This is a great opportunity to enjoy a friendly swim with all your friends and supporters.”

She added: “The sponsorship is also a very good way to help us at Rotary support local groups to make a real difference in and around Market Harborough.

“We are pleased Harborough FM will once again be supporting the Rotary Club by providing poolside music and announcements during the event.”

Veteran swimmers have taken part in the Rotary SwiMarathon for many years.

They include the ladies of Great Bowden, Market Harborough Sea Cadets, Street Pastors and the academies at Meadowdale and Little Bowden.

Other teams from previous events include the Park runners, disabled swimmers' club, scouting groups and several families.

One of the ladies from Great Bowden said: “It is such a fantastic fun thing to do – we love it!

“We are bringing even more grandchildren along this year to swim with us.”

Rotarian Adrian Sellers, organising the swim team entries, said: "We really enjoy putting on this event in the town.

“It is a lot of hard work, but all the Rotarians join in to help.

“It is great to see so many happy swimmers. “We expect new swim teams this year from the organisations which were given grants from last year's event, which is pleasing."

Sponsored swimmers and local businesses raked in £7000 last year to support charities and organisations.

The 2020 SwiMarathon aims to have even more teams of swimmers and raise even more money.

All you need is a team of up to six people to swim in a relay in one lane of the pool for just less than one hour.

Workmates, business colleagues, school groups, youth organisations, sports clubs, families and friends can enter.

If you’d like to sponsor the swimathon please contact Rotarian Alan Beavan on 01858 446805 or email [email protected]

If you want to swim, please email [email protected] and book a place for your team.
