They are joining together with at least 70 other repair cafes across the UK on Saturday February 15 as part of The Big Fix 2020 event.

They are setting out to create the "the biggest nationwide Repair Cafe ever held".

Organisers aim to fix as many broken, worn and loved possessions in a single morning.

The repair cafes are being held all over the country at the same time on the same day as they urge people to slash their carbon footprint by hurling fewer household items into landfill.

If you would like to get behind this eco venture then go along on the 15th and take your broken belongings to The Congregational Church at Jubilee Hall on Bowden Lane, Harborough, between 10am and 1pm.

Skilled volunteer fixers will be there to repair objects such as hi-fi equipment, small kitchen appliances, clothing, jewellery, clocks, toys and books.

Electrical devices will be given a Portable Appliance (PAT) test to ensure they are safe to use.

You won’t be charged but all donations to the scheme will help fund future events.

Try to pitch up before 12 midday to ensure there is time for all items to be looked at while repairs are limited to a maximum of two per person.

You’ll also be able to enjoy a cup of tea and coffee while tucking into delicious homemade cakes and having a natter.

So even if you don't have anything that needs fixing why not call in to see what is happening and have a chat with the wide range of volunteers taking part.

This nationwide initiative builds on the success of The Big Fix held in Exeter last year.

Then 40 volunteers fixed a stunning 268 items, smashing the record for the number of mends at a single repair café.

Project Co-ordinator Catherine Causley said: "Global disasters are resulting in widespread concern over the way we live in today's throwaway society.

“More people than ever are choosing to repair and reuse instead of discarding and buying more.”

She stressed: “Repair Cafes are wonderful places.

“They encourage people to get involved and learn how to extend the life of their belongings, resulting in a more sustainable society.

But Repair Cafés also have a lovely community atmosphere and can show just how much fun repairing things can be."

Over 1,000 volunteers in towns across the country will try to repair over 2,000 items.

That should result in a massive saving of about 60 tonnes of CO2 emissions, helping to battle fast-moving climate change and boost the environment.
