A romp of a musical is the final month long show to be performed at Kilworth House Theatre as part of its 10th anniversary season.
The high spirited Thoroughly Modern Millie is to be performed from Tuesday August 16 to Sunday September 11.
.It is based on the 1967 film of the same name, which itself was based on the British musical Chrysanthemum, which opened in London in 1956.
Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love.
Millie soon begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned by the leader of a slavery ring in China.
The musical also delights in a number of well known show tunes including How the Other Half Lives, Not for the Life of Me, Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life and of course the title song Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Producer Celia Mackay is joined by director and choreographer Stephen Mear who has won numerous accolades including Olivier awards for Mary Poppins, co-choreographed with Matthew Bourne, Hello Dolly and a nomination for this year’s Oliviers for his choreography on Gypsy at the Savoy Theatre.
He was also choreographer for the Disney stage musical The Little Mermaid on Broadway with his most current work Sunset Boulevard at the ENO starring Glenn Close.
Michelle Francis takes on the title role in the show with Ashley Day as Jimmy, Clare Halse as Miss Dorothy, Matthew McKenna as Trevor Graydon, Rachel Stanley as Mrs Meers and Irene-Myrtle Forrester as Muzzy.
