Musicals, witches and fun as top shows visit theatres

A trio of family favourites can be seen at theatres in Leicester over the Christmas period.

The Curve theatre will be showing the musical Oliver! based on the book by Charles Dickens until Saturday January 23.

At the same venue, the Roald Dahl classic The Witches can be seen until Sunday January 10 while visitors to the De Montfort Hall can see the pantomime Snow White from Saturday to Monday January 4.

Oliver transports its audience back to Victorian London for the timeless tale for a boy who simply wanted more.

After escaping the workhouse, young orphan boy Oliver quickly finds himself alone on the bleak streets of London.

When he befriends the mischievous Artful Dodger, Oliver is introduced to the art of pickpocketing, but could his new lifestyle lead him to discovering his mysterious past?

The score that includes such classics as Food Glorious Food, You’ve Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two, Where Is Love? and I’d Do Anything.

One of the scariest books by Roald Dahl is brought to life in a tremendously terrifying treat for the whole family.

Witches absolutely detest children. They find them revolting and are planning to wipe them out like weasels! They want to squish them and squiggle them and make them disappear.

But one brave young boy and his grandmother have a plan to get rid of the witches for good… if only they can avoid being turned into mice.

The pantomime at De Montfort Hall will be the wickedly funny Snow White, starring Benidorm and Loose Women’s Sherrie Hewson.

Sherrie currently appears in the ITV1 comedy Benidorm as Joyce Temple-Savage and has been a panelist on Loose Women for more than 10 years. Soap fans may remember her from previous roles in Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
