One of the most famous comedies written by Oscar Wilde will be performed in Market Harborough by a local group later in the month.
EG Productions, who are based in the town, will be bringing The Importance of Being Earnest to The Oat Hill in Market Harborough.
The show it is a farcical comedy in which the protagonists maintain fictitious personæ to escape burdensome social obligations.
It also works within the social conventions of late Victorian London, the play’s major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage, and the resulting satire of Victorian ways
EG Productions were founded in 2011 as a platform for bringing professional affordable theatre to the local community,
The company has quickly grown both in terms of notoriety and the size of the projects we produce.
The first production had just two cast members and one of the most recent production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream saw a professional cast of eight perform over three days.
Using only professional actors and well known material the productions are designed to be accessible to all.
From Shakespeare or Chaucer to modern classics by Ayckbourn or Cartwright the group has a love for story telling and no gimmick approach means a great evening’s entertainment for all.
They also aim to bring gifted casts with versatile performances with many actors portraying multiple characters. The 2012 production of Jim Cartwright’s Two saw two actors play fourteen roles between them.
Our open air productions continue to receive increasing praise whilst our unique dinner theatre experience has proved to be a resounding success.
The Importance of Being Earnest is performed from Thursday August 20 to Saturday August 22 with four performances over the three days. The show starts at 7pm each night with a matinee performance at 1pm on the final night.
