Pieces by Strauss, Brahms and Schoenberg are in the programme for a concert performed at a church next month.

The Chamber Players will be bringing some of the best in classical music to Dingley Church near Market Harborough on Saturday May 9.

The group is a flexible ensemble of renowned UK chamber musicians who perform the great works of the chamber music repertoire.

The players are drawn from some of the major chamber ensembles and orchestras in the UK, including The Chamber Orchestra of Europe and The Guildhall String Ensemble.

They will be supported by the Ensemble 360, The London Mozart Players, The Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique.

Keen that music is presented in its historical context, all the concerts include lively spoken introductions for the pieces as well as good programme notes.

The full concert will see the Chamber Players performing Richard Strauss
Sextet from Capriccio Op.85.

There will also be a performance from Arnold Schoenberg’s Verklarte Nacht Op 4 and Johannes Brahms’ String Sextet in B-flat Major Op 18.

A spokesman for the organisers, Music at Dingley, said: “Don’t be frightened by the Schoenberg – it is an early piece of his and gorgeous.”

Music at Dingley was founded in 1985 as a summer school for young musicians.

It has now evolved into an annual programme of concerts and recitals by professional musicians.

Over the past three decades, Music at Dingley has been organised by a small committee of local volunteers, providing classical music of the highest professional standard in the setting of Dingley, overlooking the beautiful Welland Valley.

The group’s main objective is to offer performing opportunities to outstanding young musicians on the threshold of their careers.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets on the door are £19 for adults and £10 for children. There are reduced tickets available to the Friends of Music at Dingley.
