This summer’s Classic Car Show in Market Harborough has fallen victim to the coronavirus emergency.

The much-anticipated open air event was set to go ahead in Harborough town centre on Sunday July 5.

The popular spectacular has now been cancelled – but is poised to bounce back bigger and better than ever in 2021.

Cllr Phil King, leader of Harborough District Council, said: “We understand this event is a big part of the calendar for the district - and of great importance to businesses.

“But we have no option to postpone this in the interest of public safety.”

He added: “We will continue to do everything in our power to support local businesses affected by the disruption caused by COVID-19.

“And we will look to bring the classic car show back to the district next year.”

Cllr Phil Knowles, the leader of the council’s Liberal Democrat group, said: “These are exceptional times and difficult decisions need to be made.

“It’s crucial that public safety is the number one priority and postponing the Classic Car Show is clearly the right thing to do.”
