Review: West Side Story at Kilworth House Theatre

West Side Story is the first summer production at Kilworth House Theatre this year - and what a way to start.

The setting is again remarkable as the stage has been extended into the grounds to include the neighbourhood street scenes, Doc’s drug store, the gym, bridal shop and of course the famous balcony scene.

The gangs click their fingers to keep in charge.

The jets on their home turf do not want the sharks around.

All young excitable males of course. There is the famous rumble which goes wrong, desperately wrong.

The shark girls were brilliant bringing a vibrance and glamour to their America with a resounding response from the audience.

The well known songs are all there – Maria, Tonight, I feel Pretty, Somewhere and many more.

Maria (Laila Zaidi) has a superb voice which complements Tony (Liam Doyle) in the duets. We were so enthralled that there was not a rustle of sweet paper anywhere!

The finale brought a well deserved standing ovation – well earned for the hard work.

A brilliant night again.
