Market Harborough Orchestra get ready for concert

The concerts at Market Harborough Methodist Church at 7.30pm.

Secretary and flautist Frances Hynes said: “We are looking forward our concert In the Highlands inspired by the power and beauty of the Scottish landscape.

“The young German composer Mendelssohn scribbled down the famous opening notes to his Hebrides Overture in a letter home one evening in 1829 after a visit to Fingal’s cave.

“His lovely Third Symphony, known as the Scottish was inspired by a visit to the ruins of Holyrood chapel in Edinburgh.

“Scottish composer Hamish McCunn’s In the Land of Mountain and Flood, composed in 1887, evokes the wild beauty of his native land.

“Northampton-born composer Malcolm Arnold’s Four Scottish Dances, written for the BBC Light Orchestra in 1957, capture the lively spirit of Scottish dance and folk music.”

The group aims to provide the opportunity to play and listen to great orchestral music close to home.

Frances added: “Our audiences are very appreciative and the players love giving the concerts. We are pleased to report that our last concert was close to selling out. Do come along and listen, we aim to appeal to novice listeners and seasoned music-lovers alike.”
