Get back in the habit with a musical all about holy nuns

Market Harborough Musical Theatre (MHMT) is aiming to show that their new musical isn't a load of '˜nunsense' when it comes to Welland Park Academy Theatre next month.

The group presents Sister Act The Musical based on the smash hit movie starring Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith.

The score features music by Alan Menken. With scores for Little Shop of Horrors (recently presented by MHMT) The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Enchanted for Disney under his belt, his rock-gospel score gives a 70s disco feel to the show and the nuns really deliver.

The group cannot deliver Whoopi Goldberg but you are promised a stunning Deloris Van Cartier in Erin Billington, from Foxton, in her first major role with MHMT.

Chris Prior, from the group, said: “Erin is well known for her enthusiastic work with The Gang Show and brings terrific energy to the part of Deloris.

“Supported by several well known nuns, Reverend Mother Tracy Southwell makes a return to the Harborough musical stage after a few years absence honing her skills with other groups and with Market Harborough Drama Society.”

Although the story revolves around the cloisters and its occupants the male members of the company have plenty to do playing gangsters, policemen and even the Pope and some well known faces will be appearing, among them Vince Appleyard, Dylan Atkinson and Adrian West-Tooms.

Chris added: “You might wonder what gangsters are doing in this show. That will be made clear once you are in your comfortable seat and enjoying this production. This is a really fun show and the society are expecting a sell out so book your tickets early.”

Tickets are now on sale at Ideology in St Mary’s Road, online at www.mhmt.ticketsource.co.uk (booking fee applies) or can be reserved by phoning 07967 252823. Prices are from £12.

The show runs from Wednesday, March 16, to Saturday, March 19, at Welland Park Academy Theatre at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm.
