The world’s biggest contemporary choir – which has a thriving branch in Market Harborough – is launching a new musical project for children during the February half-term.

Rock Choir is staging the ‘Rock Choir Rock Stars’ online initiative for youngsters aged from six to 16 across Harborough and beyond.

The project invites children to learn a Rock Choir pop song, singing and musical techniques, followed by the chance to record their voices along with other children throughout the UK.

Created in 2005, Rock Choir supports individuals and communities in hundreds of towns countrywide.

Rock Choir provides a vital lifeline for many and the positive impact it makes on well-being and mental health using singing, music and friendship has changed thousands of lives.

They are offering workshops and online events to connect with under-pressure families during the national Covid lockdown.

Youngsters aged 6-11 (Rock Choir Juniors) and older children and teens aged 12-16 (Rock Choir Teens) can take part in virtual singing workshops to learn and record a Rock Choir version of True Colours - sung by Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick in the 2016 film Trolls.

The Zoom workshops will take place from Wednesday February 17 to Friday February 19.

‘Rock Choir Rock Stars’ will feature a variety of online tutorials focussing on vocal and musical techniques centred on the learning and recording of the song True Colours.

“We will provide Rock Choir tutorial videos to practice at home in between the online workshop sessions.

After the final workshop and with clear instructions provided, each participant will be asked to send in a recording of their own vocals.

“They will then, along with everyone else’s recordings, be mixed and produced into a final pop song accompanied by a pop-video created from the workshops allowing everyone to see and hear their amazing efforts as a full virtual choir,” said Rock Choir.
