Welland Valley Triathlon Club’s husband and wife duo Nick and Jesie Mullinger both competed at the Upton Triathlon, at Upton-On-Severn, Worcestershire.
Unusually, this triathlon has a river swim rather than a lake, pool or sea.
To get to the start line, the competitors had to walk 1.5km upstream and clamber down a ladder into knee-deep mud and then set off swimming downriver, while avoiding the motorised river traffic.
The bike route was a fairly flat and fast course through the beautiful Worcestershire villages and the final run takes in farmland and the surrounding meadows, with the finish line back along the River Severn.
There they go into the party field where there is a large campsite and the DJ played long into the early hours for those that had any energy left.
Nick Mullinger completed the Standard Distance (1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run) with a personal best time of 2:32:27 and came fourth in his age group.
Jesie Mullinger competed in the Sprint Distance (750m swim, 21.5k bike and 5km run) in a time of 2:05:47.
Also competing were WVTri’s Paula Sherratt and Donna Argo who entered the Grafham Water Swims competition.
This swim takes in a beach run-in start and a run-out finish.
Sherratt finished as the first lady home and second overall in this mixed race with a really impressive time of 23:26:8.
Argo completed the 1,500m swim in 34:59:7.
