A number of regular runners were volunteering as marshalls, but the club still managed to turn out a 12 strong team with some impressive performances all round.

Overall it was a close affair in the Men’s race with Alex Percy of Hermitage Harriers just edging out Stephen Parkes of West End Runners with a four-second gap splitting them, the winner coming home with 34.01 on the clock.

The Ladies’ race was won by Sarah Purser from West End Runners in a time of 41.17, ahead of Nicki Nealon (Huncote Harriers) in 42.11.

Bernie Owen and Noel Houlihan were first lady and man home for the club, and both finished second in their age/gender category.

John Clampin, Mike Turn, Tony Dobson, Kirit Patel, Jamie Owen and Lee Boddy ran for the men, with Emma Boyd, Aileen Collins, Vicky Beaumont and Abby Davies competing for the ladies.

The event was a huge success, with good feedback from other Clubs, with over 500 runners on the whole enjoying the challenge, which includes tough climbs up Saddington and Gumley Hills.
