Desborough Runners take on the hilly challenge

Despite the threat of Storm Dennis over the weekend, some members of the newly-rebranded Desborough Runners club took part in the annual Naseby 16:45 race on Sunday.

Starting in the village of Naseby,, the race itself has been scheduled in as part of the members training preparation for the Spring Marathons – Brighton and London - in April.

The route is a particularly challenging and undulating one with plenty of hills (namely Dick’s Hill at mile 10) to test most abilities.

The course is entirely run on roads, many of which were closed to traffic, and well supported in places by spectators and the odd dog walker.

For some of the club members this was a good chance to stretch their legs in the character-building weather and wet road surfaces leading to most runners getting wet and muddy trainers.

Out of the 518 runners who took part the team’s results were: Andy Hurst 43rd, 2:05.02 (1st home for the club), Erica Calvert 66th, 2:08.45 (1st in age category), Robin McIntyre 135th, 2:20.31, Gabby Hanson Assan 187th, 2:26.16, Natalie Taylor Moore 191st, 2:26.29.

Desborough Runners meet every Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm at Desborough Leisure Centre.

New members are always welcome.

The club was previously being known as Desborough Rapid.
