The 125 mountain bike riders who contested round four of the Friday Night Summer Series at Kilworth Springs Golf Club had to deal with humid conditions on a slightly altered course from previous years.
The racing was fast and hard as the competitors had to negotiate two steep climbs – ‘The Wall’ and ‘The Lactic Ladder’.
All of the racing in various categories provided worthy winners with Revel Outdoors Race Team securing three victories – Richard Jones (Senior), Holly Bettles (Ladies) and Matt Barratt (Vets 40).
The trio dominated their races and tamed the circuit as it weaved round the perimeter of the golf course.
Jones was lapping around eight minutes and completed the race in 58 minutes.
Fine victories for the promoting club Welland Valley CC were secured in the Under-23s by Jake Hubbard and in the Vet 60s by World Masters champion Vic Barnett.
MI Racing’s brother and sister duo Lotta and Finn Mansfield both won their Youth classifications.
Josh Popham, Naked Bikes RT, had to run the last half lap after snapping his chain to finish second youth ahead of Welland’s Fraser Ayears.
Pete Harris was locked in a tight battle with Pete Busby in the Vet 50 but escaped the shackles to take the victory.
Lots of Welland riders were contesting bunch racing with Michael Burke getting in the results.
At Mallory the race was decided by a bunch sprint as a four-man break was caught in the last 200m.
Burke used his track craft to grab fourth place.
At Coalville, Burke was the lone entrant from WV in the latest round of the East Midlands RR series.
A tactical race over a a rolling 62-mile course eventually saw a four-man break at halfway.
In the closing miles more riders joined the front group to make it 12 riders clear before Burke used his speed to win the bunch sprint for 13th.
In the Mercia CC 25-mile TT, fantastic results were achieved by Myles Foskett and Steve Boat.
Foskett did a personal best of 55.25, knocking 1:16 from his previous fastest while Boat had a superb 59:53 with +9.26 on age standard.
Matt Plews and Dave Birch rode the Northampton and District Cycling Association fifteen mile time trial at Sawtry on Saturday.
Plews completed in 35.45 and Birch in 41.44.
