You're playing for your futures! Dixon sends message to Lutterworth Town squad

Josh Dixon has warned his Lutterworth Town squad they’re playing for their futures.

The Swifts’ three-game unbeaten run came to an end with a 4-2 home defeat to United Counties League Premier Division strugglers Sleaford Town on Tuesday evening.

And manager Dixon says things must change.

“The lads have been told it’s not good enough,” he told The Mail.

“The message is quite clear, they’re playing for their futures next season.”

Lutterworth won the Division One title last season to reach the Premier Division, but Dixon has been left frustrated by how the team have adapted, at times, to their new level.

“That is the most frustrating thing. The core of this team are the lads who have done very well for the club. But it’s not quite happening in games this year,” he said.

“Maybe they’ve reached their level?

“We’re working hard behind the scenes to attract more players in the summer.”

Tuesday night’ defeat did not go down will with the manager.

“It was very, very frustrating. Not good enough again,” Dixon added.

“It’s another time we’ve dropped points to a bottom-six team and there seems to be a problem with motivation or consistency against lower-placed teams.”

Lutterworth now travel to face fifth-place Holbeach United on Saturday.

A Kade Lewis penalty secured a 1-0 victory over the Tigers in Leicestershire earlier this month.

And although Holbeach will be smarting from their defeat, Dixon expects his squad to be in a similar mood as they head to Carter’s Park this weekend (KO 3pm).

“I’m expecting a reaction after the Sleaford game,” he added.

“Hopefully, after Tuesday, we’ll be going to a team near the top and the lads will be up for it.

“I hope the Sleaford game inspires us to be better again.”

On Tuesday Town host basement boys Pinchbeck United (KO 7.45pm).

“We don’t want to have a similar game to the Sleaford one,” Dixon added.

“We need to approach the game better.”
