Meet the football champions from Harborough who are rolling back the years!
A football team called the Real Lions have rolled back the years after winning a tough six-a-side league in Market Harborough – despite being packed with players aged over 40.
Skipper Max Harris, 44, said his side had stunned much younger outfits by topping the Soccer Sixes competition on the 3G pitches at Harborough Town Football Club.
And the hard-tackling dad-of-two has roared out a warning to jealous young gun rivals shooting for them next season – we’ll be fighting like lions to keep our crown!
Over the moon Max, of Desborough, said: “I’m so proud of my lads.
“We’ve shown the young boys that we mean business.
“We make the ball do the work, we hit the opposition on the break and we get stuck in.
“We are ultra competitive and we all battle for each other from start to finish.”
The landscape gardener said they’d won the 10-team Monday night league after battling through 18 40-minute matches.
“I’m sure the young lads look at us old boys and take it for granted they’ll roll us over – and I don’t blame them.
“There’s always a lot of tasty banter flying around but we all shake hands at the end and have a laugh,” said Max, who’s played with his mates for about 20 years.
“And we aren’t going anywhere yet.
“We’ll be back next season and our message is simple – you’ll have to up your games lads if you want to beat me and my star veterans!”
