Danny Laywood knows he faces a fight to get his place back in the Lutterworth Athletic starting line-up.
Laywood, last season’s top scorer with 23 goals, made his first appearance of the current campaign when he came off the bench for the midweek clash with Burton Park Wanderers at Hall Lane.
The match was won by a Dom Ivens hat-trick and that means Athletic have now chalked up three straight wins in United Counties League Division One, netting 11 goals.
Boss Mike English, whose side host Pilkington XXX in the FA Vase on Saturday, said: “Danny has been away for a month and understands he has to fight to get his place back in the team.
“And he is prepared to do that.
“We know teams will always be interested in players who score goals, but I can’t see Danny ever leaving Lutterworth.
“He’s a Lutterworth lad and this is his club.”
The win over Burton Park was watched by several representatives from Pilkington XXX.
They head to Hall Lane for an FA Vase first qualifying round tie on Saturday.
Pilkington XXX are currently sixth in Midland League Division One.
