The Bees had held firm against The Valley at Butlin Road for 78 minutes until substitute Kurtis Revan put the hosts ahead.

And in the final seconds Danico Johnson added insult to injury by netting a second for Rugby, who ended the day top of the United Counties League Premier Division.

“It was 2-0 but we left feeling really frustrated,” manager Stuart Spencer said.

“We went there to frustrate them and keep it really tight.

“They’d won seven of the last eight games so we knew they were flying, on a great run.

“We produced a great performance but with about 11 minutes to go with the scores at 0-0, our goalkeeper really having very little to do, one error with the ball saw them play two passes and put the ball in our net.

“They didn’t look like scoring until that point.”

As the full-time whistle blew Spencer was left with mixed emotions, proud his gameplan almost held Town but disappointed with the outcome.

“I thought we were good value for 0-0,” he added.

“It wasn’t even stevens in terms of ball possession, but we had our moments.”
