Lutterworth boss Josh Dixon confesses it will be tough to top 2019 as the Swifts secured promotion after winning the Division One title and settling well into their new surroundings.

The club have also reached the fourth round of the FA Vase, and will travel to Consett on January 11.

“We’ve got to say 2019 has been one of our best-ever years as a club,” Dixon told The Mail.

“It will be hard to beat that.

“I’ve sat down with the chairman and we’ve discussed targets and where we want to be going in the next couple of years.

“We want to finish as high as we can in the league and we’ve done well in the FA Vase. We want to keep going in that competition as far as we can.”

Bees boss Stuart Spencer also wants to complete the campaign knowing his side are moving in the right direction.

“Our target is for a top-six finish in the league,” he said.

“If you look at the league table at the moment it may seem a big ask to achieve that from a mid-table position.

“But we have games in hand on some of the teams above us and we want to put a good run together for the second half of the season.

“We want to show we’ve made progress. We’ve finished 11th in the last three seasons so we want to show improvement on that.

“We’ve had a better FA Vase run this season, so if we finish higher up the table we will be able to reflect upon some progress.”

On Saturday Lutterworth travel to Wellingborough Town while Harborough host Leicester Nirvana (both 3pm).

Harborough thrashed Northampton ON Chenecks 3-0 at the HTFC Community Stadium on Boxing Day.

The goals came from Tony Bartlett, Josh Walsh and Barnes Gladman.

Meanwhile, Lutterworth were edged out 2-1 at rivals Rugby Town.

Marshal Keenan netted for the Swifts but Danico Johnson and Ryan Seal, who found the net in the 89th minute, settled the contest for the hosts.
