Budding chef Max Faulkner made it all the way to the national final of the FutureChef contest, entered by more than 8,100 young people.
The 13-year-old qualified for the 12-student national final in London on March 22 after being crowned Leicestershire’s champion last November and the East Midlands winner in February.
The Lutterworth High School pupil cooked guinea fowl four ways and a chocolate fondant dessert for the final.
Although Max just came up short, his dishes were praised and chef Brian Turner described him “as one to watch”.
FutureChef, run by the Springboard charity, encourages young people to get involved in the food industry.
