Work starts on town’s new recording studio

Work has just started on a new music recording and rehearsal studio in Market Harborough.

The Room For Music studio, on a site at Symington’s Recreation Ground, off St Mary’s Road, could be open by Christmas.

RFM’s Mike Heaps said: “We’re now the official sub-tenants of the land, and the foundations are going in.”

He said building work would last three to four months, and the internal fit-out would take another couple of months.

So far £80,000 has been raised for the project in grants, funding and private donations, and the RFM team is still looking for another £23,000.

The studio will consist of two rehearsal rooms, kitted out with amps and PAs and a control room.

Any profits the company make will be put into providing events for the local community, Mr Heaps said.

Some local schools have recording facilities, but the RFM studio is believed to be the only stand-alone recording studio in the Harborough area.

Mr Heaps said: “I’m just so pleased that all the hard work in getting this project together has finally paid off.”

Harborough District Council awarded RFM a £30,000 grant last year.
