Specialist 4x4 volunteers dashed to the rescue after a lorry got stuck in deep snow in the Harborough district last night (Monday) – triggering serious traffic tailbacks.

Leicestershire and Rutland 4×4 Response team were called out after the truck got bogged down on the snowbound A47 on the northern edge of the district.

They responded after the wagon got trapped between Tugby and Skeffington just after 7pm.

The incident totally blocked the busy main road as a two-mile queue of drivers battling to get home from work quickly built up.

Alerted by Leicestershire Police, the ever-resourceful 4×4 rescue squad linked several of their vehicles together before managing to haul the stranded lorry free just before 9pm.

Police have thanked the volunteers for their help.
