A famous engineering firm held its works reunion at Cotesbach, near Lutterworth, at the weekend. Tom and Sophy Newton organised a gathering of former employees of Newton Brothers Derby Ltd. The occasion included the firing of the landmark Merlin engine, which was followed by lunch at the Cotesbach Educational Trust.
Newton Brothers was best known for a ground-breaking invention by Fred Newton of a carbon pile voltage regulator (patent 1939) which was fitted to all aeronautical engines in WWII including the famous Spitfire.
The event paid tribute to the people who have helped to preserve the history of the firm.
