Tributes to riding club stalwart Liz

FRIENDS of a riding club stalwart who died last month after a battle with cancer have paid tribute to her.

Liz Cross, from Lutterworth Road in Gilmorton, died on Monday, March 26, at the age of 73.

Mrs Cross had been involved with the Misterton and District Riding Club for more than four decades, having joined the club soon after moving to Gilmorton.

Friend and club colleague Molly Matthews said: “Liz was the secretary for about 26 years and gave an awful lot of her time to the club during that time.

“Initially, she was interested in riding, but eventually she became more involved with the administrative side of the club and arranged most of our events and worked alongside the committee.

“She also worked with the Fernie Hunt to arrange instruction events and camps.

“She was a good friend and will be missed very much by everyone at the club.”

Mrs Cross’s husband Derek, who is retired, used to produce hand-made model soldiers to order for clients all over the world.

Mrs Cross leaves behind husband Derek and the couple’s two sons and two daughters, who Mrs Matthews said all still live in the Lutterworth and Gilmorton area.

Her funeral was held yesterday (Wednesday), at All Saints Church in Gilmorton.
