A crash involving two vehicles and horses has closed the A6 in both directions near Market Harborough.

Leicestershire Fire & Rescue sent three appliances including a large animal rescue team to the scene at the Kettering Road junction on Clack Hill.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "The incident was confirmed as an RTC involving one van into two horses as well as one other vehicle. No persons were trapped, two people with injuries are being treated by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Leicestershire Police reported a three-mile stretch between the A576 and the A4304 roundabout was closed northbound at around 6.15am today (Monday March 2). That was later updated to include the southbound carriageway.

A force spokesman said: "We would ask drivers to please use alternative routes if possible but delays are expected so please allow extra time for your journey."
