A businessman has opened a shop selling carpets in Harborough several years after his grandfather ran a similar company in the town.

Tommy Squires has opened Discount Carpets in Nelson Street, years after his granddad ran Cut Price Carpets in Harborough.

Mr Squires explained that his grandad first opened his shop in 1976 and it was always known as Cut Price Carpets, and was a well-known business in Harborough.

The grandson has now re-branded the company as Discount Carpets but he says the aim is to pick up where his grandad left off.

He added that the company had always been known as a “little firm with a big reputation” and it is something he is looking to continue.

Discount Carpets is selling to the public at wholesale prices and if a customer can’t make it into the store it promises to do home service quotes for free. Mr Squires said the store has hundreds of carpets and vinyl flooring to chose from, and the company does not ask for payment until any job is complete.

It also sells a selection of bedding, beds and mattresses.

Mr Squires said there is a number of aspects that means Discount Carpets will stand out from its competitors.

He said: “We are a roll stockist, that makes our prices cheaper then most.

“We guarantee to beat any written quotes that are brought to us.

“We work all over the county there’s nowhere too far for us and we can guarantee fitting within 36 hours of picking your carpets, vinyls or wood.”

The store is open from 10am to 1pm on Mondays, 9.30am to 5pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and from 9.30am to 5pm on Saturdays. It is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
