The clock is ticking for those who want to apply for this year’s Harborough Carnival Queen crown.
The Carnival Queen competition, which has a rich history dating back many decades, is open to any girl in the Harborough district aged 13 and over.
As well as being treated as a royal VIP for the big day and getting to ride on the float at the head of the carnival parade, the role has proved to be a boost for many winners’ CVs and shows a person’s community spirit.
Previous queens have also used the position to raise awareness for certain causes and charities.
However, the deadline to enter for this year’s contest is fast approaching, with the selection night itself only four days’ away.
As an extra incentive, the winner of this year’s competition will bag a fabulous prize.
The queen will get to become the face of Wainwrights Hair Salon, of Bennett’s Place courtyard, off High Street, Market Harborough, and will be entitled to a year’s free hair cuts.
Lavender Blue Flower Shop, of Church Street, has kindly agreed to donate flowers for the Royal Court this year.
The Carnival Committee issued a big thank you to both companies for their support.
This year’s selection evening is taking place at The Angel Hotel, in High Street, this Monday, April 20.
The shortlisted queens will be asked a series of questions in an informal setting.
Nominations are also being sought for the roles of Carnival Prince and Princess, for youngsters under the age 13.
To enter the contest, email Suzanne Leete, from the Harborough Carnival committee, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
