It left the town six weeks ago on the back of a pick-up truck, probably thinking it would never see Market Harborough again.
But the High Street’s iconic red phone box is coming back - saved by Harborough District Council.
The council was furious when BT removed the phone box without any consultation - especially as the local Market Harborough In Bloom group were keen to adopt it.
Council leader Blake Pain said: “This is not what I’d expect from BT - an organisation that purports to be customer-focussed.”
And local councillor Barbara Johnson added: “Someone’s made a mistake here.”
Now BT agrees, and the box should be back within a month - as a bit of visual nostalgia; it won’t have a working phone.
Margaret Richards, from Market Harborough in Bloom Volunteers, told the Mail: “It’s good news. We want to use the phone box to advertise some of the fantastic voluntary groups in the town.”
