A group that makes re-usable shopping bags is celebrating after presenting its 5,000th bag to the winner of thisd year’s Great British Sewing Bee.
The Harborough HITBags group was launched in the summer of 2010 and its membership has tripled since then.
The group wanted to celebrate reaching its 5,000th Morsbag milestone, so presented the item to sewing bee queen Heather Jacks (front centre, left), who lives in the Harborough district.
Morsbags are re-usable bags made from recycled material and groups or “pods”, as they are sometimes called, from across the country have been making them in a bid to promote alternatives to plastic bags.
The Morsbags are given away free and the group said it is grateful for any donations of fabric or thread, which can be left at the reception of Harborough Council’s offices in Adam and Eve Street.
