‘Taxi to town’ plan for 20 bus-starved villages

A new rural taxi service has been launched by Leicestershire County Council, to help around 20 Harborough district villages most affected by the withdrawal of the Rural Rider buses.

Twelve rural county bus services were withdrawn on May 3.

But now villagers can book a taxi in advance and pay bus fare prices for a lift to the nearest town and back.

A spokesman for the county council explained: “Villagers are now being offered off-peak demand responsive transport – bookable taxi-style transport, available at bus fare rates.

“This will ensure that there is still a link from Leicestershire villages to Market Harborough and Leicester.”

Information about the new service is available at www.choosehowyoumove.co.uk/everyday/public-transport/ .
