'˜Someone could die on this road', says worried mum

A worried mum has started a petition asking for speed limits or traffic calming on a dangerous rural road.

Joan Gray says it’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed on a cut-through road in The Langtons, particularly the Thorpe Langton Road stretch between the B6047 (the Market Harborough to Melton road)and Thorpe Langton.

“I decided to do something when I saw a child very nearly hit by a car - it clipped their schoolbag - adjacent to the bus stop by the cricket pitch in East Langton” said Mrs Gray, who is from East Langton.

“Cars using the road as a cut-through go too fast - often 70mph - and we need speed limits or traffic calming.”

She said there have been three road traffic accidents in the East Langton area since January 31, as well as the schoolchild near-miss, which was on January 24.

In one of the accidents, a driver had to be cut out of their vehicle (pictured left).

She said: “It is no exaggeration to say that it seems only to be a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or worse as a result of the excessive speeds of motorists travelling along this road, whether within or outside the speed limit.”

Mrs Gray has contacted Leicestershire County Council and the local police to see what can be done.
