Pupils show off their hard work

Pupils in Year 5, aged 10 to 11, used all manner of materials to inform visitors about the Ancient Egyptians and now they are inviting townsfolk to visit and take a closer look at their display.

Belinda Humfrey, curator of the Heritage Centre, said: “Paint, pasta, plasticine, cardboard and a mass of information: these are just a few of the materials used in the amazing, wonderful Egyptian Museum created by the Year 5 pupils of Havelock School.

“Visitors can learn in detail about ancient Egyptian landscapes, pyramids, hieroglyphs, customs, and view mannequins of Tutenkamen, Cleopatra and a mummy.

“The exhibition, a selection of work from three classrooms, is in Desborough Heritage Centre because last term three classes from Year 5 came here for advice about how to set up museum exhibitions.”

Belinda thanked teaching staff and all the children for their gift to the town.

She added: “I am delighted in these days, when we are so often instructed to dumb-down exhibitions because people want only pictures and very few words, that Desborough children like words and research and providing lots of written information and questions for us to read with their pictures and artefacts.”
