A Harborough-based band is affirming its town roots by hosting an American-themed concert to celebrate its recent change of name.
Brass, Wind and Fire is rebranding as Harborough Big Band which it says is to create greater recognition for its role in the community and the style of music it plays.
To celebrate the band’s fresh start, Harborough Big Band will host The Great American Songbook – a celebration of the all time big band greats, which will include ballads such as Summertime, Fly Me to the Moon and Mack the Knife.
The event takes place on Saturday, May 21, at Harborough Methodist Church from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 and are available from Halo Jewellers in High Street.
Jerry Wallwark, Harborough Big Band’s chairman, said: “Last year the band celebrated its tenth anniversary and we agreed that it was time for us to develop a different image to demonstrate our love for the town – as reflected in our new branding.
“We are made up of some exceptionally talented musicians from across the Harborough District and we felt it was important to promote this through the name change. We hope that by becoming Harborough Big Band we can develop our following locally and also attract more talented musicians.”
