Frustrated motorists are complaining that they are finding it difficult to use credit and debit cards to buy tickets.

Cllr Phil King, leader of Harborough District Council, said the problem with the machines appeared to be a nationwide one.

But he pledged the authority was working hard to resolve the issue locally.

A Harborough council spokesman said: “We are aware that card payments can sometimes be slow for users of the pay and display machines in our car parks.

“Whilst this is due to reasons beyond our control we are currently looking at options around improving the internet connectivity to these machines to help speed up card payments.”
