Cllr Phil King, leader of Harborough District Council, said: “I would like to thank our refuse collection crews who are continuing to pick up bins in this challenging environment.

“They are doing a fantastic job and I’m sure we all appreciate the highly-essential work that they do for all of us every week.”

Speaking more broadly, Cllr King stressed: "We are living through an unprecedented period.

“What is very apparent is that everyone is doing their bit to help tackle this significant challenge.

“I publicly thank and pay tribute to all the NHS staff who live in our district, who are working so selflessly to help save lives.

“We must also thank our council's staff for ensuring key council services are able to continue, as well as their families, for adapting to this difficult situation.

“We have redeployed staff to help deliver our critical services and respond to the needs of the community through our community hub.”

He added: “I must also mention all the volunteers across the district who have stepped up when it mattered - they should be hugely commended.

“Do visit our dedicated web page www.harborough.gov.uk/coronavirus for all the latest updates - and do listen to Government advice to Stay at Home - Protect the NHS - Save Lives."

The district council’s community hub can be contacted from 9am to 3pm on Good Friday and Easter Monday but will be closed on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
