A community solar project in Market Harborough has been scrapped, despite strong public support and £188,800 of investment.

The Harborough Solar One scheme involved the installation of 600 solar panels at the Robert Smyth Academy on Burnmill Road and Archway Health Hub on Lubenham Hill.

But the Academy’s Board of Governors was unable to secure the approval of the Education Funding Agency for the project to proceed

Peter Jones, director of Harborough Energy, said he was “bitterly disappointed”.

The company will seek to develop another project with the investment, but backers have the option to withdraw their money.
