This flooded car park opposite Market Harborough railway station yesterday (Wednesday) was just one example of serious local flooding across the Harborough district (pictures by Andrew Carpenter). A flood alert for the Welland Valley area was issued by the Environment Agency.

The Met Office said the area had got half a month’s rainfall in one day.

Local floods occurred in Scotland Road (pictured right, taken by Phil Inman), Little Bowden; Huntingdon Gardens, Market Harborough; Warwick Road, Kibworth; the B6047 between Three Gates and New Inn.

The B664 was reported to be closed at
Weston By Welland. The B6047 was said to be becoming difficult to negotiate in the Goadby area. Parts of North Lane Foxton were also submerged (pictured bottom middle, taken by Suzy Frith).

Police at Lutterworth reported flooding on a dangerous bend on Ashby Lane, Willoughby Waterlees. Flooding between the A6 Rockingham Road roundabout and Great Bowden had resulted in cars being stuck in water, locals said.

Lubenham Primary School was closed for the day, with local streets underwater.
