They are staging special workshops at primary schools across Harborough and the whole county in February and March.

A member of the local authority’s Waste and Environment team will be attending the show at Sherrier C Of E Primary School on Bitteswell Road, Lutterworth, on Thursday February 27.

Leicestershire recycles about 45 per cent of all household waste.

But the council is relentlessly striving to further improve recycling rates.

The interactive workshops feature a mix of games, problem-solving, discussion and drama-based activities to educate children about environmental issues.

Cllr Blake Pain, the council’s cabinet member for Environment and Transport, said: “We want to get Leicestershire’s kids thinking about the amount of waste people create.

“And how we can all make more of an effort to reduce our impact on the environment.”

He added: “As the next generation of conscious consumers, youngsters play a key part in disseminating core messages.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to encourage county children to start thinking differently about reducing, reusing and recycling at home, at school and within their communities.”
