Seven-year-old Harry Lister racked up the amazing total as he got on his bike every day in June during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Market Harborough C of E Academy pupil decided to hand over the £430 he raised to the town’s Jubilee Foodbank after he was sponsored by his family, friends and neighbours.

Harry, of Coventry Road, Market Harborough, made his mind up after he was impressed by Manchester United striker Rashford’s battle to win free school meals for children.

His beaming mum Kate, 39, said: “We are very proud of Harry.

“He’s raised a lot of money for a very important cause.”

The mum-of-two added: “Harry went out every day and rode at least four miles.

“He even got up early to go out at 7am one very hot day to make sure he clocked up his miles.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for such a young boy.”

Kate said they set the young Harborough Town FC player the tough target to hit in June.

“Harry got bored during the lockdown so we gave him the challenge and pledged to give him money to give to charity.

“He’s thoroughly enjoyed getting in his saddle and venturing out day in day out,” she said.

“He pedalled to Harborough Town’s ground, through Great Bowden and all over the town.”

Kate, who works for the library service, said Harry’s dad Tom, 38, a surveyor, ran alongside him all the way.

“Tom’s a keen runner and they have been a brilliant double act.

“Harry was inspired by seeing Marcus Rashford campaign for free meals for children,” said Kate, who’s also got a daughter Emily, six.

“He wanted to help feed youngsters here so he’s given the money he’s made to the Jubilee Foodbank.

“Harry’s very fit, he loves his sport and he’s been totally dedicated and devoted.

“He’s really put his mind to tackling this and shown that he’s so compassionate and cares about others at the same time.”
