An author is looking forward to lighting up the lockdown as her first book comes out in July.

Charlie Tyler, 45, of Kibworth, is counting down the days until her scary new 80,000-word psychological thriller The Cry of the Lake appears on July 21.

Taking a brief break from working on her second book, the talented writer and illustrator told the Harborough Mail: “I’m really excited.

“I am so lucky that I’m managing to get The Cry of the Lake published.

“And I’m obviously just hoping that it will go down well and be well received by the public.”

Charlie, who’s lived in Kibworth for 14 years, said it’s taken her two years to complete her spinechilling literary labour of love.

“I’ve set the story in a typical Rutland/South Leicestershire village.

“It revolves around three key female characters,” said Charlie, who is married to QC Will, 45, and has three teenagers.

“We have two lower sixth-form schoolgirls and a woman.

“I’ve put pen to paper most days and it’s been so enjoyable and fulfilling to see the plot come together.

“It’s a dark read so it’s appropriate that I’ve signed up with small indy publisher DarkStroke Books.

“They have been great.

“I had a lot of rejections before DarkStroke offered me a deal and it has been tough over the last few years.

“So I would urge all budding authors out there to be persistent and persevering, keep the faith and never ever give up.”

The mum-of-three had hoped to do a personal book-signing session at Kibworth Books on the High Street.

“My dearest friend Debbie James runs the shop.

“We were so looking forward to meeting people there when my book comes out.

“But I fear that won’t happen now, sadly, due to the Covid-19 lockdown,” said Charlie.

“The Cry of the Lake will be available on both Kindle and as a book on Amazon.

“I’m now writing out a rough draft for my second book so let’s hope my debut novel is the first of many!”
